In sweltering heat, in the Mosel Valley, in between the vineyards,
the 5th run for the German Motocross Trophy took place last
weekend. Aside from the trophy riders, a few riders from the
German Automobile Association (DAM) participated as well and
so 24 teams showed up to the mandatory training to compete for
the positioning. We only made 12th place, due to a problem with
the carburator, where the motorcycle would turn off during the
fast laps.
We still got a starting position in the first row and were in
6th place after the beginning of the first run. This wasn't
to be for long, because our rear brake line broke after a "love
bump" during a passing maneuver in the second lap and we
drove straight through a turn. After half of the competition
had passed, we continued on using only the front brake.
After a few laps we got into an acceptable rhythm and in the
end we came in in 8th place.
The 2nd run began with a massive pile-up that half of the riders
were involved in, which meant restart.
The 2nd start went all right and after a few passing maneuvers
we were in 6th place, which we stayed in until the last lap.
Then suddenly, the throttle cable broke, which meant that the
last lap had tpo be driven with one hand on the handlebar and
one jerking the throttle. This is how Schurich/Hanke, who we
had kept at a distance throughout the race, were finally able
to pass us at the end of the last lap.
However, due to the large number of drop outs, e.g. Ohr/Hilpert,
who had problems with their transmission, or Nabbe/Hertfelder
after a crash at the beginning, we ended in 5th place, our best
ranking of the year, up to now.
The race went to Müller/Gilsing before Walter/Birke and Jansen
Best wishes,Daniel
