On December 28th and 29th 2007, the first race of this year's
Swiss Snowkite Tour took place on the Bernina Pass. The Lago
Bianco and its beautiful surroundings are an El Dorado for
all snowkiters. Unfortunately, in the radiant sunlight, the
wind ditched us and the first day of racing was called off
early.
On Sunday, the wind was back, so that 3 runs á 15 minutes
could be started. In the end, I came in 7th, which was then
corrected to 8th place, due to an error. Oh well, not bad
for the first race of the season. I'm sure the next race will
bring an improvement.
The 2nd stop of the Snowkite Tour 2008 was Lake Dauben, located
at 7218ft/2200m at the Gemmi Pass in the Swiss canton Wallis.
Just transporting all the participants equipment to the high
alpine location was an organizational and logistical challenge,
which was mastered brilliantly by all of the aides. On Saturday,
the first 3 runs started during strong snow flurries and good
wind.
Exciting one-on-one competitions with bad visibility in the
deep snow, demanded a lot from the riders. A sociable evening
in the mountain hotel ended the day. Sunday morning brought
bright sunshine and wind. The day could only turn out awesome.
The riders showed up to the briefing at the lake early. 3
runs were started again. However, the wind got weaker and
the race ended prematurely. It went well for me though and
I finished in 6th. That put me in 6th place in the overall
ranking too.
