Tiny Pirate becomes 2nd at the German Championships

5 degrees below zero and snowfall, a Saturday, where you wanna stay at home, on the couch under a blanket and enjoy a hot coffee or tea, but this is one thing I only can dream about it, as a new Pirate…

Because on this frozen Saturday, 23.02.13 are the 12h Indoor MTB Race German Championship in Rotenburg/ Fulda in the Goebels Hotel Arena,0fFor the 3rd time. And I wanted to start there. A course just 1,45km long with each round about 40m of altitude and you had to ride your rounds on it, between 8:00 and 20:00o´clock. Officially it´s an Indoor race, but only a small part of the course is inside the heated gym, the rest is outside in several levels of a parking house. I rather would race with the conditions of last year, while we had 10degrees and sunshine, but I´m not a whiner. And those who register themselves for a race in February, can´t expect summer temperatures…!

The start was at 8:00o´clock in the morning, and soon after the start the reigning champion took the lead, and so I rode in front, after a couple of hours, Monika Janssen made a move and tried to pass me, and so we rode a fierce battle in front.

Around 12:00o´clok, I was again in the lead, because I stopped drinking after 3 hours to avoid the toilette, I had to get some where else my energy. I tried pizza rolls, I pressd the whole roll in my mouth, but it was a little bit to much, and so wasn´t able to breath right anymore, Than I was passed again, but I was just relieved, that I now got time to ate it all up.

Finally Monika Janssen won the race, with just a couple of km´s ahead of me. ( Her 113rounds, 163,85km and 4250m of altitude and myself 112rounds, 162,4km and 4480m of altitude. The 3rd, Anne Sublev, got 70rounds, 101,5km and 2800m of altitude.

Conclusion of the race is: You can´t win everytime, but you be proud about a 2nd place as well, and you should be carefull about eating a pizza roll, while riding. Sometimes they´re more dangerous, than some downhill parts…
