The first big event for the German Scooter Association was on
the schedule - an european contest in Frankenhain,Thuringia. Already
at the run up of this event, Capt´n Schnuffel was involve in the
organization of this event and shoudn´t have much time to ride
his scooter. S, a Pirate-Relay-Team was some kind of liability.
But what to do, if your relay team only got two Pirates and you
need three???
ALL CLEAR ! Taking hostages…
But this is not the way we normally prefer, it´sa kind of ermergency
plan. So, before I wrote an email to a good friend of mine in
Finnland, to the repeated World and Europechampion Hannu Vierriko
to invite him to become a membder of our Pirate-Relay-Scooter-Team.
We all knew about his qualities in the most important disciplin:
PARTY ;-) To my surprise I received a positive ansmwer soon, so
I left my sword in the scabbard – okay – let´s go to Thuringia.
A long journey didn´t bother a Pirate very much, he´s used to
it, and because of that, we arrived one day earlier, to get to
know with the local food and beverages habits. Sadly, they didn´t
serve rum in our hotel, but instead of that, a tasty “ Rose-Beer”.
Sure, we made an ample probe of it…On the next morning was the
official opening and the firsts disciplins.
First we tried our luck in the single time trials on the short
distance.
But with 30degrees and no clouds, I remarked very soon, that taking
a “ Rose-Bath” the evening before wasn´t the very best, so I decided
just to do the qualification run. At least, reaching one point
is enough not to be dropped out of the world ranking list. ;-)
Capt´n Poreaux was a little bit more serious about it and was
able to reach the finals, just to be beaten their by his european
competitors.
With the further organization work and the heat, my head double
it size, besides the way I took some pills, coke, water, sugar,
sleep and food, but the headaches stayed. This cannot be from
only so few beers…never – I´m not a land lubber… And just to have
another Pirate in our relay-team at the start, we gained more
Pirate strength by the one and only chocolate-scooter-Pirate Klaus.
Porneaux, Chocolate-Klaus and Hannu ( from left to right ) reached
the 4th overall place in the relay event. I gotta say one thing,
tha twe had a flat tyre in round two and were in the need of a
spare scooter, which we fetch for it, by running tournament. Actually,
there could be than the 4th place !!!
Who care´s ??? In fact of that we had another purpose to celebrate.
On the next day Capt´n Porneaux almost slept the whole day, while
Schnuffel organized a scooter biathlon and a kids-competition.
Finally, here it comes, the long distance – 35km – 15rounds to
go around the Lütschetalsperre and the closer environment. Schnuffel
was again at the time measurement and Porneaux in his element.
;-)
Becasue of the really strong competitors and a really tough Czech
guy, who weren´t able to hold or to catch by anybody, Porneaux
finished on the 6th place - but when you take a closer look, it
wasn´t really that bad
A successful weekend, with lots of fun, good placements, headaches
and lots of “ roses”!
So, There are Pirates in the forest of Thuringia as well. J
