Pirate
Radmarathon SURM,
am At the 19th of september 2010 we went to Alpirsbach for the Surm Bike-Marathon. Me and a colleague of mine from Feuchtwangen, Thomas and our team-member Frank also wanted to participate. Frank did the 146km with 1900m of altitude and did a really good job with an average speed of 31km/h. Congratulations, you see our training works. Me and Thomas did the long distance with 250km and 4000m of altitude.

The start was early in the morning at 7:00o´clock, with an air temperature of 4degrees, even I didn´t feel that good because of a light cold, everything started quite well. We were with the first group and the speed was right from the start really fast. My throat hurt a bit, and I didn´t feel that good anymore, but a Pirate, will handle that, I thought.

Until we came to the Knadel, everything went as it should be, but up the Knadel I had to torture me really hard, as never before in my bike career. When I rode their, thoughts came up of cancel everything , giving up and more, because of my health, I wasn´t able to talk anymore, nore I was able to swallow anything.

So, I fought my way to the last but one food supply station. Than my inner me told, you can do handle this, and than it went almost good again, Thomas and I were able to push the pedal again. The supply were as usually really good and with lots of friendly helpful hands. Luckily they had hot soup and tea, it was really good for my throat, better than cold stuff.

The weather was really good, as well like the course and the scenery and after the last station, we found a large and good group, we joined them and pushed the pedal again really hard on the last 40km, and they really pushed the pedal.

When we crossed together the finish line, Thomas and myself were really exciting that all was finally over, even without a crash or a puncture. The usual wheat beer, we drank right in the finish area, sadly I wasn´t able to taste and to speak anymore and ist really hard for me...to stay quiet.

But one thing for sure, Pirates made a good job here. Well…Hoist the colors high and chain mostright.

greetings
Marcus, the Motivator.
