Cis- oder Transalp?

At the 22nd of july 2011, Jan and myself travelled to the south, to start our 7day-journey across the Alps from Garmisch.Patenkirchen. One special of our trip was, that it should´nt be a regular trans-Alp, but a journey thru the Alps, with St.Leonhard in Passeier, at the southernmost point. I t came quiet different, but read it yourself, and because of that I called it “Cisalp” ( Cis means here and now and trans- across).

For the first day we planned to ride across the Fernpass to Hochgallmigg near Landeck. And it worked, besides the fact, that it almost rained the whole day. The mountain view over the Inn-valley from the the guesthouse, which we can recommend you, only 25€ for half-board with lots of tasteful food.

On the second day we wanted to ride thre the Val dÚnina to Schlinig, but because it was really cold that night and it snowed in the mountain all around us, we decided to ride over the Reschenpass, quiet beautiful.

On the next day we wanted to ride thru the Etsch-valley towards Naturns and than up to Eishof. But before we started, I had to get rid of a 2cl long thorn in my tyre and fix it.

The final uphill part had 1500m of altitude and sometimes up to 20%ascents, not bad or?

On the fourth day, we wanted to ride our royal stage, first up the 2895m high Eisjöchl, than down to St.Leonhard and back up the Jaufenpass again.

The weather wasn´t the best on the other side of the Joch, and we were lucky to reach after 5h and 14km, the Lanzin mountain pasture.

On the way down towards St.Leonhard my free-wheel didn´t work anymore, so we had to find a bike-shop, I could have done that on my own, but I haven´got a chainring srcewdriver or something for the chain nor a fork frame screwdriver with me, and after it, it was too late to ride up the Jaufenpass and so we changed our plans and rode to Lana near Meran to stay for the night there, on our way there, we saw these awesome bikes.

On the very next day we rode to Bozen to get the train at 10:00o´clock, which shoud bring us to Sterzing and back on our planned way, and we enter the train our dream of „ Cisalp“ was gone, because obviously riding a train was not planned. When we reached Sterzing we rode up to the Pfitscher Joch, we we booked our 5th night, we arrived there while having real good weather.

But when we woke up the next morning, we haf mist, fog with a sight under 50m, rain and only 4degrees..nice one. When we made a brake in Mayrhofen, half-frozen and all wet, we decided to take the train back to Garmisch and to ride the Karwendelmountains next year. But, even of the weather, we had a woderful trip with 43km and 10000m of altitude in 6days.

Ahoy
